Your New Year Resolution to Lower Your Car Insurance Rates

In a couple of weeks the New Year will be upon us. It is now that we normally look back on the past year and evaluate what we did. What we did right, what we did wrong and how we can improve it for the year to come. Along with other matters, it is also a time where we have to evaluate our performance financially. If we made enough money his year or more importantly how we have saved on the right things this past year. We need to know if our choices with regards to our expense item are correct and if services or other items that we paid for are worth their price. This is where we take a look at the performance of our car insurance policies. Most people don’t know that they can save as much as half of the cost of their policies by using the same method that low cost car insurance companies utilize to keep the costs down.

If you actually think of it, most of us are guilty of not paying enough attention to our car insurance policies. It is akin to one of those things that you set and forget. You buy your car, sign up for the “comprehensive” car insurance package and chuck the policy documents in the store thinking that you have all the angles covered and can safely be on your way. Yes, you are covered, but for what? What are the actual coverage items that you have? Most will not be able to tell you and are just happy that their policy is comprehensive and it covers everything. There-in lays the problem, you are covered for everything, and you are paying for the coverage items that you might not need at all. You are wasting your money on coverage items that you simply do not need. This is where low cost car insurance policies come in.

Unlike the comprehensive car insurance policies that many people opt for, low cost car insurance products are generally highly customized car insurance products that are much more suited to you than just any standard “comprehensive” policy. To determine what coverage items are important to you, you must first look at the situation that you and your car are faced with. You need to take into consideration your job, your lifestyle, your movements etc to see which coverage items don’t apply to you so you can delete them. Most of the time some very obvious ones will jump out at you. The best examples are flood coverage when you are located in a desert climate or even work coverage when you leave your car at home and take public transport to work. Some of these extra coverage items (which aren’t necessary) can cost quite a bundle. I have known some people who have cut as much as 50% off their car insurance policy just by removing these unnecessary coverage items.

In the minds of many people, low cost car insurance and comprehensive car insurance are miles apart. In reality low cost car insurance is simply a more efficient form of car insurance where it is customized to your personal needs. The essential coverage items that are important to you are retained while those that have no effect on you are discarded so you don’t have to pay for coverage that you won’t use. By reducing your coverage requirements, the car insurance company will reduce your premiums substantially.

If there is one thing to take away from this is that modifying your car insurance policy should be something you do regularly as your circumstances change. There are too many people who do not give the car that their car insurance policies deserve. Too many think that it is just a document that should be kept in a safe place should they have a need to use it. Too many think that there are too many big words and that they should just be safe and go for the “whole package just to be safe”. I’m sure most of you would have heard those words said before. Little do they know that “being safe” means they are wasting valuable money. The first step is just read through the policy document. You will find coverage items that simply do not make sense to you. Some of them will just jump out at you and you know you can life without them, saving you money.

As we look back at the year gone by we would all wish to have found ways to make our life more fulfilling but also cheaper. There is nothing quite as joyous as having something of great value that you have managed to buy or obtain at a very cheap cost. This translates very well car insurance products which we normally don’t pay much attention to. If you actually take the time to sit down and go through your policy you’d be surprised at the coverage items that you don’t need and can strike out to lower the cost of your car insurance. If you haven’t done so, then we highly recommend that you take the time next year when your policy is up for renewal and find where you can save for the coming year’s car insurance.

Have a look at the different options available with low cost car insurance policy plans. We outline how to recognize good policies versus those that serve more as a scam than an actually assurance tool.
